"Something About the Tide" is a feature-length coming-of-age dramedy for those of us over 30 about a misanthropic addict in recovery who finds out that her dying mother gave up a previous child for adoption and must prove her self-worth by fulfilling her mothers final wish--track down the other child and bring him home before it's too late. Tonally, it's as if the dry, self-deprecating humor of "Sideways" was written for a female protagonist and combined with the complex family dynamics of "The Farewell."
It is written & produced by Julia Morizawa (Infinite Pictures), directed by Desdemona Chiang, and produced by Ashley Song (Desert Island Studios). The project is currently in development and financing.
In June 2024, the film was one of five finalists invited to pitch at the Tribeca Film Festival as part of Untold Stories sponsored by AT&T for a chance to win a $1 million production grant. The pitch can viewed below:
